Remembering a friend.

It was cold evening, January 24th 2019, when we were suddenly hit by information that we lost good ham radio friend.
Yes, that was really sad news that Arvo ES1CW passed away at age of 86.

Many of You, got his callsign in your 6m or 4m log over the Years.
But probably not many of You know, that beside Arvo was great ham radio operator with great operator skills and technical knowledge, he was also IARU R1 Emergency Communication Coordinator and Honorary member of Estonian Radio Amateur Union awarded in 2013 by President of ERAU for his outstanding achievements on ham radio field in Estonia.

First time on radio waves we've met long time a go on 6m, where Arvo was almost everyday. During these days we had many QSO's using different propagation, and long chats about 6m propagation on ON4KST page.

Not many of You, 4m freaks know that Arvo and his good friend Hellar ES8II were much involved in modifying old good Yaesu FT-847 to make it usable to run 4m with outstanding results.
For me personally, they were inexhaustible source of hints and good technical discussions.
Finally tons of e-mails exchanged with Arvo and Hellar, let us, me and Peter SP2DMB to introduce our Polish FT-847 modification now widely used in Europe.
More than 50 pcs of 847 were modded across Poland and whole Europe, with excellent results. This will not be possible without their help and knowledge sharing.

And finally came the day we met on 70MHz for the first time - this what I will remeber for good.
I had the pleasure to be his first SP station worked on 4m.
And guess what? Having bunch of digi modes to choose, we made it on "semi" HSCW, using old MS techniques. Just because Arvo did not used to run digital modes, using his loved CW mode instead.

All will miss you Arvo, I will.
Hope to hear You on 6m Long Delayed Echo some day...
R.I.P
